5 Ways To Get Your Car Ready For Spring

Get your vehicle ready for spring by taking off your winter tires, changing your wiper blades, inspect the belts and hoses, check the battery, and always look at your fluid levels.

1. Take off Your Winter Tires

If you live somewhere where you put on winter tires, spring is the time to switch back to your all-season tires. Make an appointment with your local tire shop to swap out your all-season tires and store your winter tires. See if the tire shop will store your tires for you in a climate-controlled environment.

When you get your all-weather tires put back on your vehicle, make sure to have your tires balanced and your wheel alignment checked. Your vehicle can get out of alignment easily with all of those winter potholes.

2. Change Your Wiper Blades

Your wiper blades should be changed out about twice a year. After a busy fall and winter season, your wiper blades are more than likely getting old. If your wiper blades leave streaks across your vehicle when you use them, you need to change them out for a new pair. You don't want to be caught in a spring downpour unable to see.

3. Inspect Belts & Hoses

Have your mechanic inspect all of the belts and hoses on your vehicle. Make sure your belts and hoses are free of cracks and dry-rot. It is common for belts and hoses to get damaged during the cold weather months, which is why it is a good idea to have them inspected in the spring. Preventative maintenance instead of an emergency repair is the way to go.

4. Check Your Battery

Look at your battery. Check the battery terminals and make sure that they are free of rust and corrosion. If the battery terminals are getting corroded, you may want to invest in a new battery. Check and see how much of a charge your battery is still holding. If your battery is holding less than half of it charge, plan on investing in a new car battery soon.

5. Look at Your Fluid Levels

Whenever you are working on your vehicle, you should always inspect your fluid levels. Inspecting your fluid levels is one of the easiest maintenance tasks you can engage in with your vehicle, and also one of the most important maintenance tasks you can do. Make sure that your oil, brake fluid, coolant, and your washer fluid are all filled up to the appropriate fill line. If the levels are low, top off the fluid. If the fluid's quality is degraded, change out the fuel in question.

Get your vehicle ready for spring by taking off your winter tires, getting your alignment checked, put on new wiper blades, check the quality of your belts, hoses, and battery and finally, always check your fluid levels.
